Pumpkins growing in a field

For Kindergarten and First Grade Students

Fall 2024 Update

Our educational programs for the fall of 2024 are full. If you are interested in putting your preschool, kindergarten, or first grade program on a waiting list for this year, please send an email to education@jonesfamilyfarms.com.  You can also email us if you wish to be invited to register for the fall of 2025; we start the registration process the last week in August each year.

Educator Guided Harvest Program provides children with a fun and educational farming experience. Children will enjoy a hay wagon tour of the farm fields to see the growing crops and landmarks of a classic New England farm (weather-permitting).

Kindergarten Program

At the field classroom, our farm educator will teach what a plant needs to survive and how farmers grow their crops. Students in kindergarten will focus on the ways farmers work with the weather and seasons to grow food. Students will then harvest their own pumpkin from a real pumpkin field! After harvest, the students will return to their chaperones who will help bag the pumpkins before returning to the Harvest Yard.

First Grade Program

At the field classroom, our farm educator will teach what a plant needs to survive and how farmers grow their crops. First grade students will learn about the role of wildlife on a farm, and the ways in which animals may help or hinder a farm’s growing plants. Students will then harvest their own pumpkin. After harvest, the students will return to their chaperones who will help bag the pumpkins before returning to the Harvest Yard.

2024 Program Dates

Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays from September 25 through October 25

2024 Program Times
9:30 am or 11:00 am

2024 Program Cost
$13.50 per student

Our program runs for one hour.

We recommend groups select a time that would allow them to make it to the farm 10 minutes earlier than their scheduled tour time, to allow room for unforeseen circumstances on the roads, as well as time for children to unload from the buses and use the restrooms, if needed, before the program. While we will do our best given the circumstances, if a school arrives late for their scheduled time, we cannot guarantee that we can offer the full hour-long program if it means impacting another school’s program.

We can accommodate up to 2 hayrides (of up to 45 people per hayride) at each time slot.

School Tour Guidelines

Please review our school tour policies regarding chaperones, cancellations, and payments, as well as answers many of our commonly asked questions.

Online Registration

To start your registration process, please submit our Online Registration form in August 2025, where you can select available days and tell us more about your school. Our farm educators will contact you over email to confirm your registration and schedule your tour.

As we reflect on our agricultural adventures and experiences, I find it exciting to realize that our many environmental practices work in symbiosis with the positive ecological impacts and the economic success of our farm.

I believe this is a critical message for our nation to embrace.
