Pond at the Homestead Farm

We honor the traditions and impact of Native Peoples

We connect with the Indigenous Peoples of Quinnetukut – the place of the long water, now called Connecticut – through out interactions with the land and the seasons.

We acknowledge this farm exists on the ancestral homelands of the displaced people of the Paugussett, Pequonnock, Schaghticoke and Wappinger nations. We recognize and respect the Indigenous peoples who have been living and care for this land since time immemorial. We value the continued presence of Indigenous peoples in our communities, and strive to follow their example as good stewards of the land and our natural resources.

Timeline of Native Americans in Farm's Region

Timeline of Native People's history in the region of our farm.

As we reflect on our agricultural adventures and experiences, I find it exciting to realize that our many environmental practices work in symbiosis with the positive ecological impacts and the economic success of our farm.

I believe this is a critical message for our nation to embrace.
